Power meter for mountain bike

The more I use a power meter on my road bike, the more I realize the necessity of one on my mountain bike. I was thinking about the next big purchase for the bike and it will not be a carbon frame. Keeping track of the efforts on a mountain bike is more important that having a lighter and more comfortable frame. So far I have looked at the SRM and power stages.
