A warning about that downhill Coach

I am always meeting new people and becoming part of their email list. As part of this, information is always exchanged. Last week it was an article about "How to Mountain Bike Faster" by Michael Frank. As I started reading I realized the first problem. The author writes "On any course and any trail, the line is often but not always the worn path."  This is a completely wrong and it does not apply to racing or riding in Florida.

The reason this is the case is because he is talking about downhilling i.e http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mavQYlzR8DA . After you watch this video you will notice that there is nothing remotely close to that in South Florida. No one can say we have downhilling at Amelia, Oleta, Virginia Key or even Markham. So in XC riding at our local parks the line rarely gets chewed out unless there is a race. Even then the amount of damage is not noticeable to beginners. The reason being that in order to get a particular line you have to be going at a certain speed.

So next time you are reading an article about how to mountain bike faster, notice where they are drawing the information from. If they don't ride in South Florida there may be the possibility is not going to apply.
